Fort Collins, CO:
The book “50 Interviews: Young Entrepreneurs – What it Takes to Make More Money than Your Parents” by Nick Scheidies, 21, and Nick Tart, 22, features interviews from around the globe with some of the most successful young entrepreneurs.
The independently published book is the first of two volumes. In it, the Fort Collins authors interview 25 young entrepreneurs ages 12 to 23. The intent is to educate and encourage other young aspiring en-trepreneurs to follow their own ideas and start businesses.
The two are entrepreneurs themselves having started JuniorBiz, a web-based business providing tools and tips to aspiring entrepreneurs.
Tart, co-author, said seeing his peers utilize the book to help them start their own businesses is very fulfilling.
“It’s awesome,” Tart said. “This is what I’m really passionate about is teaching people to start businesses.”
Tart spent Tuesday morning speaking with students in Fort Collins High School’s Alternative Cooperative Education, or ACE, Coordinator’s Cathy Hettleman’s class.
Both Tart and Hettleman said the students responded well to Tart’s presentation that included a You-Tube video showing one of the book’s subjects.
Being only a few years older than some of the students in the class, Tart said he can relate to them easily.
Scheidies, co-author, had no interest in entrepreneurship prior to his childhood friend Tart asking him to help him with the writing and editing. Scheidies’ background in English, he is currently getting his masters in composition and rhetoric at CSU, lead him to work on the project and sparked an interest in entrepreneurship.
While a year ago Scheidies, like many college graduates, had no idea what he was going to do with his degree, now his work is being read by his peers at CSU.
“It’s pretty bizarre, I’ll be honest a year ago I had no idea I was going to be part of this,” Scheidies said. “It’s surreal… we put a lot of love into this project. We knew it was good, but it was definitely a little scary putting our baby out into the world.”
Dawn DeTienne, CSU professor of entrepreneurship, met Tart about two years ago at CSU when he presented a project in a business class. Since then DeTienne has kept in touch with Tart through an advisory role as well as the Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization, which the two attend.
DeTienne decided to use the book this semester in the introductory survey course where students ex-am everything from conceptual ideas to intellectual property.
Students using the book will have the opportunity to discuss the entrepreneurs interviewed in the book as well as present one of the young entrepreneurs to the class, DeTienne said. Tart will also speak to the class about the book.
The book, which sells for $20 online, has sold though it’s first run of 275 books. Another print is being shipped. FCHS received $5 discount on each book ordered and a quarter of CSU’s book sales will be do-nated to the Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization.
The author’s hope this is just the start, as Tart plans to get the book into 10 universities and five high schools over the next year, as well as start work on the next edition.
